Apr. 30 - Big Update
There was a fine crowd at the Central/West Coast driver's meeting on Thursday; old and new faces alike. Lots of great discussion regarding current/future rule changes, track upgrades, new management, province-wide racing and the new highly-anticipated Legends Cars series took place, and there were almost as many answers as there were questions.
The biggest announcement was the transfer of ownership of Thunder Valley Speedway to AME Enterprises, Ltd., the folks who have also recently purchased Avondale Speedway. It was exciting to hear the plans they have in mind for Thunder Valley Speedway, as well as possible province-wide racing in the future. Bob Hutchings was paid a well-deserved pat on the back for his dedication to the track since its beginning, and was given credit for making oval track racing what it is in Newfoundland today.
The next ground-breaking order was the introduction of the Legends Cars and its sanctioning body, INEX, to Newfoundland. These cars are scaled-down replicas of 1930's coupes with 1250CC engines, and are capable of some serious speeds in the hands of a great driver. The implementation of INEX means that anyone running in the series is eligible to qualify at any track sanctioned by INEX worldwide, opening a huge window of opportunity for racers in Newfoundland.
